“What’s your best discovery? Asked the mole, “That I’m enough as I am” said the boy.”
From: The Boy, The Mole, The Fox and The Horse by Charlie Mackesy
My name is Jacquie Barnett and I’m a BACP registered Integrative Counsellor and Psychotherapist, specialising in helping adults and young people over the age of 15.
The name 'Elm' describes my approach: Empathic, Listening and Mindful. Also, Elm reflects the part nature plays in our lives and I believe trees offer a fitting metaphor for the process of counselling: From going into the roots of experiences / patterns of behaviour to the rewards and challenges of new growth and all that exists in between.
Sometimes we all need to talk, especially now, when the world is facing such unfamiliar and challenging times. You may be feeling overwhelmed, over-loaded or facing losses that seem too great to bear on your own.
Counselling and psychotherapy can help with these types of issues and I offer a boundaried and safe place to talk about your feelings or anything you wish to change in your life.
I’m often inspired by the way clients turn difficult or harrowing experiences around and move forward. Feedback I’ve received shows counselling has helped clients to:
• Reflect on the importance of issues • Feel more like themselves • Off-load their worries • Gain feelings of peace, positivity and clarity • Feel more sure of themselves and their decisions • Feel better within themselves • Have a better understanding of what sustains them/gives them resilience and how to cope • Unblock creativity • Manage better • Feel less lonely
